BOER GOATS
Boer goats come from Dutch breeding with native South African goats during the early 1900s. They got their name from the Dutch word, “Afrikaans” which means farmer.
These domestic goats finally came to the United States in 1993. This same year, the American Boer Goat Association was founded. They are known for their unique polka dot patterns with red and white fur.
Boer goats are very strong and are known to have been used as pack animals in their native origin of South Africa. Along with their physical strength, this breed has high disease resistance. The average lifespan for a Boer goat is 8 - 12 years.
